Operation: Reduction

Operation: Reduction

Is it possible to save $400,000 (1.7 million PLN) without layoffs, compromising quality, or changing production processes?

Here’s a short story about what once happened with a client of ours. Find out what happened to the $400,000 (1.7 million PLN) that vanished from our customer’s costs.

It was supposed to be just a routine review of transportation expenses. At least, that’s how it started for a company that has been exporting furniture and acoustic beech wood across three continents for two decades. Mainly by air, in hundreds of heavy wooden crates. A proven model. Nobody questioned it—until one Tuesday…

A crate heavier than the product itself

Anyone involved in export logistics knows that airplanes don’t forgive weight. The wooden crate used by the client weighed… 538 lbs. Not the product. The crate itself.
Annually? Between 500 and 600 shipments, mainly to America and Asia. The average shipping cost: about $4.00 per kilogram.
At first glance, there’s nothing alarming about that. Until a logistics analyst sat down with a calculator—and pressed “enter”. The number appeared quickly.
Too quickly.
$580,000—that’s the cost of the wood alone, which never came back.

This is where COREBOX comes in. Light as a feather.

When we received the brief, we didn’t make any promises. We just showed the data.
Corebox—our patented cardboard container—weighs 49 kg (about 108 lbs) in the dimensions used by our client. No nails. No tools.
It’s foldable in 30 seconds, export-ready, fully compliant with ISPM 15, moisture-resistant thanks to a kraft coating.
And—most importantly—it has been tested to hold over 10 tons of static load.
Does this replace wood? Not immediately…
But when the client shipped their first 10 test units and received the first invoice from the air carrier—there was no need for further convincing.

The results?

  • Reduction of each packaging unit’s weight by 195 lbs (about 89 kg)
  • Annual savings of over $400,000
  • Preparation time shortened by 60%

But is it right for everyone?

No. If you’re shipping inexpensive, local goods in single items, Corebox might not be for you.
But if you carefully count every kilogram, every minute of labor, and every dollar, and at the same time want to show that your brand is not afraid of modern solutions—then it’s worth reconsidering.

In logistics, the winner isn’t the one who packs faster.
It’s the one who calculates smarter.

If your cardboard crates weigh less than your competitors’ mistakes—then you’ve gained an advantage that won’t get lost on the baggage carousel.
